Big XII Rankings

This week's Big XII rankings:

1. Texas. They're first until someone in the conference beats them. They'll probably lose this week, but Ohio State's better than anyone else they'll see all year.
2. Nebraska. The Huskers may be back, especially in a weak North. They have a moment of truth later this month as they travel to USC.
3. Texas Tech. They didn't hang 50 on SMU, but that may be improvement on SMU's part.
4. Oklahoma. They can move up if they take care of business against the U-Dub and win at Oregon.
5. Iowa State. They're not bad. Toledo's not chopped liver, and the 'Clones survived in overtime against them.
6. Texas A&M. The Aggies may be a little overranked here. They're going to have to prove something when the conference season gets here.
7. Missouri. The team from the Show-Me State needs to Show Me. (actually, a lot of other teams do, also)
8. Kansas. The Fighting Manginos continue to improve.
9. Oklahoma State. In the cupcake portion of their schedule, but they wouldn't have hung 50 on Missouri State last year, so they are improving.
10. Baylor. Continuing to improve, but disappointed in the loss to TCU.
11. Kansas State. Narrowly missed embarrassing upset loss to Illinois State.
12. Colorado. Dropped to the bottom with an embarrassing loss to Division 1-AA Montana State.

Big win for the Frogs yesterday. It looked like the same Baylor team as last year: close, but no cigar. Close only counts in horseshoes, hand grenades, and nuclear war.

I have to admit a weird thing: I was taking the kids to choir practice yesterday with the TCU-Baylor game on, and pulled into the parking lot of a Baptist church rooting against Baylor. Or, rooting for TCU. What a tangled web we weave...

Hey, there's nothing wrong with rooting for TCU. They are the superior team anyway. And Baylor ain't that Baptist anyway, so no worries there. God won't punish you. :) Not for that anyway ... the cowboy fan thing is a bit iffy though. ;)

p.s. I'm watching the replay right now on FSN.

I have no use for Baylor, as they can't decide if they want to be a Christian or even a Baptist school, or not. Depends on the donor they are trying to solicit at the time.

Of course, TCU is Christian in name only, but I have much more of a connection with Fort Worth. I'll gladly cheer for TCU against the Bears.

I never felt like TCU was trying to be Christian and knew before hand that their C was in name only.

I still think they should have been in the Big Twelve instead Baylor. Would have been a lot easier than changing through twenty-nine different conferences like they did.

At least TCU is consistent, and doesn't try to present itself as a Christian school, and hasn't for a long time. Better to be consistent than to attempt to be all things to all people, as they try to do in Waco.

The breakup of the SWC was the wakeup call for TCU. In 1994, Baylor had better facilities and at least as good, if not better, all-around athletic department as TCU. Still, if the Wicked Witch of Austin had not been governor, I think TCU still would have gotten into the Big XII, based on the size and strength of the DFW TV market. I don't know if the Frogs would have been as bad as Baylor has been the last 10 years, but they wouldn't have been any worse. TCU has come so far in the last 10-12 years, especially in football.
