Props

Props go out to some universities for athletic excellence:

Tonight, the Tennessee Lady Vols have the first of two chances to win the NCAA national women's softball championship. They lead Arizona, 1-0, in a best-of-three series. The Lady Vols have already won the women's national championship in basketball. It's not quite what Florida did in football and men's basketball, but it's still quite an achievement, if the Lady Vols take care of business.

There are, in essence, five sports that get the majority of media exposure in college athletics. All five of these get quality airtime on the ESPN family of networks, with football and men's basketball getting the majority of the exposure. Women's basketball, men's baseball, and women's softball have developed their own followings, as well. There are three schools that qualified for post-season play in all five sports: Ohio State (they of the $100,000,000 athletic budget), Louisville, and Texas A&M. Props to the Buckeyes, Cardinals, and Aggies.

Update: Tennessee didn't win the national championship in softball. Arizona won two games in a row over the Lady Vols, to win the national championship.

I am not a fan of many women's sports unless I'm playing, but women's softball is one sport I love to watch. UA is repeating as the World Series of College Softball champions. They have done an amazing job because TN was an excellent team with an amazing pitcher. She pitched a no hitter with 16 strike outs in her first game in OKC.

I've been in Chico, CA and missed the last games. It was fun to be able to watch part of a game on my way out here because the plane had satellite tv ... too cool. I'm at Sac, on my way to DFW via Houston Intercontinental. Whoopie.

I like women's softball, especially when the Sooners do well. OU won the Big XII, and was the #3 national seed before losing in the super regional. The UT pitcher was whipping U of A in the first two games, but UT couldn't score any runs in the second game, and therefore didn't win the NC. She had one bad inning in the third game, and UT lost the NC.

Hope you got back ok from CA..

I made it back okay, thanks! Chico is a lovely little town and I hope to go back soon. Sac ain't so bad either, although I was only at the airport (they have free wifi and Houston Intercontinental George Bush Senior International Airport does not! Hobby doesn't either, fyi.

I love airports with free wi-fi. Neither IAH nor DFW have it. Ugh.
