And the Madness Begins...

The road to the Big Dance, aka the NCAA Tournament, began in earnest this weekend. The first bid was earned today as the Cornell Big Red clinched the Ivy League championship with an 86-53 win over Harvard. The Ivy League is the only remaining conference that does not have a post-season tournament. So, Cornell will play regular season games for a couple more weeks, then await their NCAA tournament destination.

Post-season conference tournaments begin in earnest on Tuesday, when the Big South, Ohio Valley, and Horizon League kick off their tournaments. The fun really begins on Saturday, March 8, when the first of 30 post-season tournaments are decided, with the accompanying automatic bids to the Big Dance.

I love Championship Week. More to come in the days ahead...

Ugly Uniform of the Day

The Oregon athletic department, thanks to their benefactors at Nike, leads the nation in ugly uniform combinations. They should leave well enough alone with their green and gold, but they can't seem to do that.

On Saturday at UCLA, the Ducks wore these things with black sparkles on them. The numbers show up in gold. The name "Oregon" and the player's name is in a black sparkly font on a black uniform. It's not Back In Black, but Black On Black.

Are they so ashamed of Oregon that they don't want us to see the name across the front of the jersey?
